On the Sept. 14th Round Table, there were some rather negative comments about routing. As a member of the QuadNet team, I thought to myself, "Did I just hear what I though I heard?" Since this was my first Round Table, I was a little shy about speaking up... Later, in the same meeting Net Control called on Will W4WWM to talk about QuadNet. From the follow-up, I get the feeling that folks don't get it. Pretty much the only really good reason to use QuadNet (or any other IRCDDB server-based system) is ROUTING! Will said that a lot of people use QuadNet and they may not even know it. That is very true. At any time a little over 1000 users are logged in and this value is growing. Since 2015, over 10,000 different call signs have checked in one time or another, and this too is growing. However very few of those users use the powerful features QuadNet offers. If all you do is link, you don't need IRCDDB or Quadnet. For G4KLX's IRCDDBGateway software, your various *_Host.txt files gives you all the information your gateway need for linking. For g2_ircddb software (like FreeStar and [shameless promotion] my package) gwys.txt is all you need. So, to set the record straight about routing, we put together a document to explain what QuadNet is all about. Sorry it took nearly two weeks. And I am also sorry it's so big. There is a lot to cover. Hopefully you will find it entertaining AND informative. Pleas check out the attached PDF. QuadNet_Routing.pdf (68.07 KB)

Hi Tom,
I think some of the comments were really directed to call sign routing and some of the issues with that. Please do not take any offense about routing in general or QuadNet in particular.
