I posted the following on Notify and on the Yahoo Group dstar_digital:
I wanted to expand on an earlier message about Field Day demos using the Constellation reflectors XRF002, XRF310, XRF555, and XLX313 with 6 full-time modules available for transcoding between D-STAR and DMR.
Some clubs have for several months been using modules on our system as the means to connect their repeaters and members' hot spots. The clubs have always been welcome as we have 26 modules on each of our 4th Generation XRF reflectors. These clubs and some others are planning on demonstrating digital modes on VHF/UHF to the general public. The clubs have found the Field Day sites to be an excellent way to demonstrate to the general public - friends, family, and neighbors. They found that allowing third-party traffic very motivational in getting folks to interested in our hobby.
One of the clubs sets up a very large site and is quite active. Last year they tried to demo D-STAR but found not much activity and often no responses to calls.
To address this and coordinate club-to-club demos and help ensure there is activity, we are also offering the use of a new facility called Notify that we set up. The general purpose is described at xrefl.net with links for more information. For Field Day, we can focus and filter messages that just pertain to Field Day. For those already on Notify, use #SPECIAL (special events). If the on-line notifications get too hectic, other users can mute #SPECIAL and Field Day participants can only follow what is explicitly selected.
To facilitate demos, we are offering transcoding modules for D-STAR and DMR. Lower cost DMR radios offer a good alternative to the more expensive D-STAR radios. The openSPOT also allow Fusion radios to be involved going from YSF to DMR.
Clubs and individual stations are welcome to join Notify, which is a Group on Groups.io.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments.
