W6EDS: Here we go!!!!
Good evening: Good evening from Bob / KD8IF located in Oxford, Ohio
KS5V: Greetings from TX - KS5V. Is there an live internet feed for the D-Star Round Table?
KS5V: I really like the Hoseline for DMR on Brandmeister
AG6WK: In anticipation of any discussion on NEW RADIO here is the link. There are other links and seem to have surfaced on the MMDVM yahoo groups. www.newradio.eu/
W6KD: standing bye...
David, AC7DS: I am looking for help with getting my DSTAR Commander on the WiFi.
AG6WK: VA3XPR Website has info on NEW RADIO www.va3xpr.net/newradio-dual-band-multi-mode-radio/
W6KD: DAvid--Do you have the traditional image setup pdf available?
David, AC7DS: Not right this second.
W6KD: On page 5 there are instructions for advanced WiFi setup.
W6KD: What's your question?
David, AC7DS: I am downloading V 2 again. Then I will have access to the file you mentioned.
David, AC7DS: What I am having trouble with it to talk to my WiFi. I would also like to set up my phone's WiFi.
David, AC7DS: The directions say that it will do that.
K6KD: X Reflector Directory xrefl.net includes X Reflectors and XLX Reflectors
David, AC7DS: Keep in mind that I am trying to do this from Linux.
W6KD: AC7DS...you still there?
W6EDS: Was NEWRADIO announced on April 1? (April Fools?)
W6KD: From Linux, you'll be manually configuring the cmdprocess.conf file yourself, yes?
David, AC7DS: That was my assumption, yes.
David, AC7DS: I open it in gedit and make the changes.
W6KD: How did you set it up the way you're running it now?
David, AC7DS: There are abbreviations that determine what kind of WiFi network. I haven't been able to decipher them. I make the changes and put in my password, but it will never connect to the WiFi.
W6KD: If you can access the desktop, you can use the "WiFi Config" GUI by clicking on the icon on the desktop
David, AC7DS: Windows file?
David, AC7DS: Is that something that I am getting from the RASPBERRY PI?
David, AC7DS: What I am doing is loading the config file from a different computer, then copying the files to the SD card.
David, AC7DS: Do I need to do that from the Raspberry Pi?
W6KD: The GUI is on the Raspberry Pi desktop. If you can access the Pi, you can set up the WiFi connection in the supplied Raspbian Linux GUI there
David, AC7DS: I would have to find a monitor and keyboard, but I could do that.
W6KD: What files are you copying to the SD card from another computer?
David, AC7DS: I will give that a try.
W6KD: You can also access the Pi using VNC, which is a standard part of the image. Any VNC client will work.
David, AC7DS: I run the ISO through Brassero in Ubuntu to make the boot files... Then I configure the config file... Then copy those files to the SD card. Then I plug the SD card into the Pi.
W6KD: I use TightVNC on my PC and iPad...believe there is a Linux version as well.
David, AC7DS: What is that?
W6KD: The cmdprocess.conf file needs to be in the /boot directory at boot time for it to be processed. So just setting things up in the file in /etc will not do anything by itself.
W6KD: VNC = virtual network client Allows you to remotely access the Pi's desktop from another computer or tablet
David, AC7DS: Do I have to load the vNC on both Ubuntu and the Pi?
David, AC7DS: I would like to give that try.
David, AC7DS: That would make life on the Pi much easier.
W6KD: It's already on the Pi. If you have the image loaded and running, it's already there waiting. default password is "raspberry"
W6KD: So all you need to do is get a VNC client on your computer(s) and you can pull up the Pi desktop remotely
David, AC7DS: I will load that on my Ubuntu machine. That should make it easier to use the Pi.
W6KD: Indeed. I use an iPad or my laptop to do it while travelling, and can access any of my six hotspots here in the QTH from any of my desktop machines.
David, AC7DS: I will try that and see if it works. Thanks for your help.
W6KD: u wekkum
David, AC7DS: Will I still need to do port forwarding to access the Xreflectors?
k6fed: DV4Home wirelesshold.com/dv4home-2.aspx/
W6KD: No...DStar Commander never needed port forwarding to access XRFs

AG6WK: Interesting to see an article in HACKADAY showing an MMDVM board that somebody hacked! hackaday.com/2016/03/23/homebrew-multimode-digital-voice-modem/
N6HKH: xrefl.net
k6fed: xreflector directory www.xrefl.net
W6KD: Not http://www.xrefl.net...leave off the "www" it's xrefl.net
AG6WK: Reminder: www.sharkrf.com/ (Nothing indicated it will be presented at Dayton)
W6KD: g0wfv.wordpress.com/how-to-update-dvmega-firmware-without-a-programmer-or-an-arduino/
N3GLD: The latest batch of DV Megas at Gigaparts ship with the most current version (2.28) of the firmware already installed.
AG6WK: Ham blog with info on running the DVMEGA with the MMDVMHOST software g0wfv.wordpress.com/how-to-mmdvmhost-with-a-dvmega/
k6fed: How to Flash the DVMEGA eeprom www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGD_bXqAL1U
W6EDS: What I find the most frustrating about DSTAR is the dropping of connections, loss of a party in a QSO, loss of internet connection, one way conversations, etc. In nearly every conversation much time is lost/wasted because if the connectivity issues... Urg!
W6EDS: DSTAR needs a minimum internet connection eg must maintain a 5 mbps connection at all times and test/ping to ensure minimum... For devices and internet connected repeaters.
W6EDS: So how do we improve this 10 year old technology? (Not making it like DMR ;-) And if the 70% good QSO's (or higher) are better than DMR and Fusion today, what is the next iteration of this technology?
