N9KO - calvin: A good discussion on Windows updates on all kinds, including the W10 Anniversary update discussed on last night's Roundtable, is on www.AskWoody.com
n9ko: Windows 10 updates, along with updated for W7 and W8, are discussed in detail on www.askwoody.com . There are warnings about the W10 Anniversary update.
K7REX: Interesting... Is it just me or does the hyperlinked www.AskWoody.com shown in N9KO's message simply cycle you right back here?... If you manually type that URL in it works correctly, but it appears hyperlinked to cycle you back where you started (??).
K7REX: Does anyone know yet what caused DRT to go down hard last Thursday?
K6KD: K7REX - Hyperlinks here need http:// to work. Corrected in above two, but yours does not allow because max characters reached. Round Table issue probably will be discussed next week.
n9ko: Looks like a new ID-51 Anniversary HT is coming that can eliminate a DvDongle or DvapDongle, depending on your option. A brochure can be seen at www.icom.co.jp/world/news/ August 8th item
KK6MYS: N9KO, great find. To summarize the new HT ID51A PLUS2 comes with the OPC-2350LU cable. You connect the HT to your computer or android phone. You can use it in Terminal Mode or Access Point Mode.
K7REX: Darn, beat to the punch (smile)... I just came over to report the ID-51A/E PLUS2 Special Color Edition find, looks good... I discovered it on the Public Now website: www.publicnow.com/view/E24C47535E2DE9E219E03F182137067A249EAA47 ~Dan/K7REX
G4KLX: I have the glossy brochure for the new Kenwood radio which I picked up at Ham Radio. I'll look at it tonight and give any info re name and rx vs tx/rx. If I can get Internet access.
G4KLX: I've seen mention of OpenSPOT now having D-Plus support. I presume DExtra will be next then.
G4KLX: I have the glossy in front of me (in German). There's no model number, the picture shows a PTT button. It talks about APRS/D-Star as well as a wideband RX with SSB/CW filters.
G4KLX: Our version is dual-band naturally, and that's about it. Very little details, just a few bullet points. beautifully presented.
N6HKH: Looks like some of our topics for tonight are outlined above.
VK5ZEA: There is a NEW "secret" Icom radio announcement for the Tokyo Ham Fair... in addition to the ID-51A PLUS2
k6jm: Mike - I hear you fine, but your audio level is a bit lower/quieter than others on the net tonight. Just FYI...
K6KD: Shows Kenwood brochure in English www.va2pv.com/kenwood-d-star-radio
w4lks: New Kenwood Radio Specs: www.jvckenwood.com/en/press/2016/08/press_160808.html
N6HKH: Bumping up mic level a bit.
w4lks: No longer tri-band
w4lks: This press release came ou Monday
w4lks: And yes...it transmits
k6jm: Even if they can make a tri-bander, it will not have 220 band in those countries that do not allow that band.
w4lks: Now its a link
w4lks: www.icom.co.jp/world/news/160808/ID-51_PLUS2_colorvariation.pdf
k6jm: Interesting comment in ICOM 51/Plus2 brochure: Terminal mode and Access point mode require the latest gateway server application to be installed. What are they referring to here? Could Plus2 refer to DPlus? Lots of questions....
w4lks: This was also released on Monday. Suspicious timing Eh?
N6HKH: Indeed!
VK5ZEA: Hmmm... maybe TWO new radios from Icom. Interesting.
Guest: Icom or Kenwood, if you are reading this, we need a budget ($150) friendly dstar handheld. More hams would get into dstar
K7REX: I think the ID-51A Plus2 is a software upgrade, not a hardware rebuild... ~Dan
N6HKH: Hmmmm ...
VK5ZEA: Can I pop up on the roundtable soon... I have to head off on a job in around 15 mins.
N6HKH: You're next
VK5ZEA: Oh... and it's confirmed Icom ID-51A/E Plus2 is this years prize in the D-Star QSO Party!
N6HKH: Cool ... I think.
