G4KLX: I don't understand the hotspot ping pong problem. People should be using their hotspots with RPT1 validation (and the repeater bit) set. Therefore another hotspot whose output has neither of these correctly set, should be ignored.
G4KLX: I know that people are lazy, and Fred PA4YBR always recommends switching validation off, but I believed he was wrong six years ago, and still do now.
K7REX: If I am not mistaken Validation ON forces the use of PRT1 and allows for older radios to connect to a simplex hotspot using the needed RPT1 DUP/zero settings... Newer radios don't need to use DUP/zero settings and Variation can be left off to ignore PRT1.
K7REX: Part 2: However, with the DstarCommander image I found that by leaving Validation OFF (to ignore PRT1 settings) that it works with both older radios using DUP/zero settings and newer radios not using DUP/zero settings resulting in far less support issues.
G4KLX: It's not a case of newer or older radios. I do not recommend having validation switched off, never, nada. But what do I know?
K6KD: Reminder: I have a tool available to test. In beta xrefl.boards.net/thread/29/hot-spot-programmer-beta Works with RT Systems radio programming software to provide automation in defining hot spot and D-STAR Commander commands.
K6KD: Initial focus is for those who are already experienced with RT Systems software.

w6oso: Hi All, Here is the Kenwood link ( www.jvckenwood.com/en/press/2016/pdf/1608_press_160808.pdf) for the announcement for the just released TH-D74 Tri band radio. Japan says it will be available in August.
N6HKH: The link above is for the dual-band Japan or EU version of the radio likely to be displayed at this weekend's Tokyo Ham Fair. We have yet to see a pre-release brochure for the "A" (US) version reported to be a tri-band model.
N6HKH: 60 Seconds of D-STAR Basics is based on a published article written by K6JM www.k6jm.com/wp/hotspots-vs-access-points/.
KK6MYS: Mike a few weeks ago we talked about linking a ICOM stack to the XLX212A as REF212A. K6KD had concerns about it not working because of the trust server or something along those lines. Has anyone try it? Anyone want to try it tonight?
N6HKH: I'll ask.
VE7LEE: New repeater, soon to be converted to DSTAR www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/details.php?state_id=CA02&ID=15037
VE7LEE: call sign of new repeater is VA7XTT, now up and running, but not yet networked.
K7REX: Mike: Sorry, my hotspot is RF sensitive and I got too close to it with my hand-held and it died.... I am back on now.... ~Dan
N6HKH: No problem. Will call you after W6KD.
k6jm-jim: If you have 2 RF Hotspots or Access Points, it is better to configure them for different frequencies. It is easy enough to set up your D-Star radio(s) to work on different frequencies for your different devices.
k6jm-jim: If you have a valid reason for 2 devices on the same frequency, then Jonathan is absolutely right -- turn on RPT validation. For Hotspots using modems, another trick - program analog radio to diff TX/RX frequencies, so RPT values are sent, no DUP/0 offset
N6HKH: VK5ZEA: Your second topic is next.
W6KD: VE5RS, is your beacon turned on perhaps?
K6KD: Agree with K6JM that by far the easiest is to use separate frequencies
k6fed: Also, there is some new software out there that is crashing the reflectors. Anyone using unauthorized software that causes harm to a reflector/repeater will be banned.

Hi Mike. There is some very buggy software out there (which is unauthorized) that connects and then does not ID. I'm working on a fix that will drop these connections and then ban the IP from future connections.
