I thought the following would be helpful to the folks doing the analysis of the reflector logs to better understand what happened last night during the roundtable. Since the issue began at the same time I keyed up to talk about openSPOT, perhaps this will be helpful. And, if it was my configuration that ultimately caused the reflector to crash, boy am I sorry - that's not the type of excitement I was hoping to bring to the discussion.
About my configuration: I had two hotspots connected to the network.
Both hotspots were on different frequencies (441.2125, and 440.9125 respectively). I was using a single HT and switching between the two. The configuration of the HT was as follows:
for openSpot:
UR: CQCQCQ
R1: W0AKO D
R2: W0AKO G
MY: W0AKO /ADAM
for DVAP:
UR: CQCQCQ
R1: W0AKO B
R2: W0AKO G
MY: W0AKO /ADAM
The reason I had both hotspots connected was that I was experiencing some strange audio drops on the openSPOT and wanted to confirm if the audio drops were coming from the XLX212 reflector, or from the openSPOT device. Switching between the two it was apparent the blips were limited to the openSPOT device, and so I was trying different configuration settings on the openSPOT to attempt to resolve. That device was connected and disconnected several times to the reflector during the net due to my resetting the configuration over and over to try and solve the blips. So if you see in the XLX212 log that it was connecting several times, that is probably why.
The openSPOT device does not have a log, so I can't see what it experienced from the incident, but here is an excerpt from the DVAP hotspot's dstarrepeater log:
On my HT I kept seeing my callsign come through as if I were transmitting from somewhere across the network, but neither of my devices appeared to be transmitting. I pulled the plug on both devices, and continued to see my callsign come through the network for several more seconds, then I started seeing other people's callsigns repeat.
Dan K7REX had sent me an email asking me to disconnect, but I had already done so by that time. Thanks Dan for reaching out so quickly.
I later reconnected, once things appeared to be up and running, with my trusty MMDVM hotspot. Here is a picture of it just for fun. Again, I hope that I wasn't the culprit, but if so, again I apologize. I certainly do not wish to become infamous as the guy that took down the Roundtable! Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help in the analysis. Let's give that openSPOT another shot, it was working just fine earlier in the afternoon.
About my configuration: I had two hotspots connected to the network.
- openSPOT connected via DCS protocol to xlx212.dstar.club, module A, with my local module configured as D
- DVAP hotspot connected via D-Plus first to XRF555A, then later D-Plus to XRF212A module configured as B
