Good reminder about time zone consistency

Similar issue was discussed a few years ago involving gateways. This is from the Yahoo Group xlxd-star. While this example pertains to reflectors, of concern to only a small number of people, there was a similar issue with gateways. This would be more of a potential issue for those who dabble in Linux on their gateways.

Hi everyone,
If the below is known to everyone I apologize. If now, it might be useful for everyone to know.
In June(?) we moved our XLX699 server to a new environment. Quite soon we realized that the QSO's was interrupted (died so to say) after approximately 4 to 5 second. The talk stream just ended.
As far as I understand it is not only our server that has experienced this problem. I've heard others around the globe talking about the same problem.
We have been looking at the network connection. Maybe there was a short increase of the latency causing this problem. No, we couldn't find anything in the network side. Next step was to look at the processor consumption. Could there be another daemon causing this problem? No, we couldn't find anything.
At this moment we got the advice from LX1IQ Luc to use the DCS protocol to connect to XLX699. Well, this could be done, but as far as I understand the DV4mini software couldn't use it so this is really not a solution.
Then, almost like a divine revelation, I came to thing about the clock in the new server. It was set to UTC. At some moment during my D-STAR career I remember helping a user that could use all the function in his hotspot. He had his RasPi set to UTC and when I changed it to CET (setting he location to Stockholm) everything worked OK.
So, we changed the clock to CET (or at this moment to CEST) and suddenly everything works OK.
All QSO's on XLX699B (mainly Swedish repeaters/hotspots) are OK regardless of incoming mode (DExtra/Dplus/DCS) and all traffic coming on the A module are OK. No interruptions at all.
I can't explain why, but setting the time zone to Stockholm solved everything!
73's de SM0RUX Pontus aka one of the happy guys behind XLX699 :-)
P.S. Thanks a zillion to Luc maintaining XLX!
